Bicycle Fitting
Body care solutions offers the only clinical bicycle fitting service in Australia using 3D motion analysis
Why is a bicycle fit important?
Everyone is different, and has different needs of their bicycle. Whether it’s riding to work, racing a criterium, competing on the track, racing triathlons or ironman racing, mountain biking, or just social riding on the weekend; your fit on your bicycle and the demands you make of both your body and your bicycle are different. Therefore getting the best possible position is important to ensure you maximize your pedaling effort.
Your local bicycle store is mostly able to ensure that you purchase the correct size bicycle and that your seat and handlebars are roughly in the right place to be able to ride around the block. However no bicycle stores have the time or the people with the expertise to fit you clinically or properly. Bike shops sell bicycle’s and bicycle paraphernalia. Body Care Solutions will professionally fit your bicycle to you.
Why is this bicycle fit different?
Body Care Solutions uses Retül to provide instant 3D biometric data. Retül is a motion analysis tool which produces accurate and repeatable information about an individuals joints, joint angles, body segment lengths, and their motion during cycling.
During the fitting of a bicycle, it is important be able to consistently and repeatedly measure a cyclists body position and joint angles accurately whilst under load.
Retül is an advanced motion capture system which enables dynamic data to be captured, as well as conventional data such as cadence and power. Retül enables all joint angles to be measured whist riding.
The Retül software generates an individual report of your cycling motion, joint angles, and body position, enabling a accurate comparisons to be made of your individual riding position from the original position to the adjusted position. Because of the accuracy and ability to individually record each riders profile, comparisons
and alterations can be made accurately over time, because people, the events they compete in, their bicycles and hence their positions do not remain the same for ever.
Retül has been used to fit many of the top cyclists and triathletes in the world. In the past 12 months 6 World Champions have been fit using a Retul system. Other notable professionals who have been assessed using Retul include; the Garmin-Chipotle Pro Cycling team, Joanna Lawn, David Zabriske, Christian Vandevelde, Norman Stadler, Tim Deboom, Craig Alexander and many many more. Bike Fits Must be Dynamic
Most bike fit specialists fit riders in a static position. This is because the traditional tools of the trade; tape measures and plumb bobs - don’t allow accurate measurements while the rider is pedaling. Retül captures the rider’s position relative to his pedaling motion, and therefore creates the most realistic replication of the actual pedal stroke and body position when out on the road and trails.
Measurements Must be Accurate
Measurements made by traditional tools have one thing in common: they are subject to human error and therefore can be devastatingly inaccurate. Even slight inaccuracies can completely change the rider’s feel after a ride. The general rule is that if you feel pain, something can probably be changed to eliminate that pain. Retül uses motion capture technology that accurate to within less than a millimetre, creating true objective data which can be utilized by the right fitter for the perfect biomechanical fit.
Biomechanics are Best Assessed in 3-Dimensional Space
Fit data collected in a traditional 2-dimensional plane (i.e. video based systems) is fairly limited because the fitter can only look at one view at a time and those views stand as independent reference points. In order to make the best fit recommendations, the fitter must realize that the front and side view are actually interdependent reference points. In other words, the front and side view must be viewed simultaneously in 3-D in order to see how all the applicable movements of the body are working together.
Retül uses 3-dimensional views to see just these precise mechanics to be able to see knee extension (from side view) in relation to knee wobble (from front view) in order to make the best decisions on adjustments to the cyclist.
How it Works
Using eight (8) anatomical LED markers strategically placed on the wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle and ball of the foot, the Retül sensor gathers information in real time and transmits it to a computer. In real time.
It’s Accurate… to under a millimeter
It’s Objective… so no human error
There is nothing better to measure you and your bike and optimise your individual position……have you been Retül’d?

What type of bikes can be fitted?
This bicycle fit process and the Retül analysis can be performed on road bikes, triathlon bikes, mountain bikes, both dual suspension and hard tails, as well as bikes used for commuting or recreational riding. Basically any bicycle!
Spin-scan
Spin-scan is a comparison of an individuals left leg pedaling efficiency and power distribution to their right leg.
This is a critical assessment tool if you are serious about maximizing each pedal stroke, improving your technique and power generation. Spin-scan provides real-time live data so you can practice improving your pedaling technique and see the immediate differences, where the dead spots are in your pedal stroke, and how to evenly apply power during each pedal stroke.
Analysis involves assessing:
- The average angle of torque (at what angle power is applied to the pedals)
- The pedalling efficiency of each leg separately
- The combined pedalling efficiency of your cycling
- Left leg power compared to right leg power
- Timing of muscle recruitment in legs during pedal stroke
- Analysis of dead or flat spots where no power or pressure is during pedal stroke
All spin-scan assessments include a comprehensive written spin scan report including images of your pedal efficiency, tips and drills to improve your pedalling, your torque profile and breakdown of left v right leg power.
