What is an Orthotic?
An Orthotic is the correct name for a device, either prefabricated or custom made which is designed and fitted to the body to achieve one or more of the following:
• Control of biomechanics & joint alignment to prevent wear & tear eg. Knees
• Protect & support an injury from sport or overuse
• Assist rehabilitation after an injury
• Reduce pain especially in feet, ankles, shins & knees
• Increase mobility, particularly in older people
There are many types of orthotics to control and support all parts of the body, from the fingers to the toes.
At Body Care Solutions, foot orthotics are a particular area of specialization.
Foot Orthotics
Your feet are your foundation, if the foundation is faulty, weak and not functioning properly, then everything above will be affected. Poor foot posture and biomechanics can lead to ankle, shin, knee and hip pain. Correcting your individual foot posture can also contribute to reducing and improving lower back pain, leg and foot soreness.
Orthotics are also able to prevent future injuries and problems; this is why a clinical biomechanical assessment should be considered by everyone no matter how active or not.
Foot orthotics are as individual as each and every person. Many factors are considered when making and prescribing foot orthotics, and there are many different styles, materials, designs and types.
Foot Orthotics can be:
- Rigid
- Semi rigid
- Soft
and be designed to be:
- Accommodating or Corrective, Functional or Supportive
Regular check ups, adjustments and repairs are included in the initial cost of the orthoses.
In the interest of quality, fit and function, the entire process from assessment to manufacture and service is handled by one and the same person.
Foot Orthotics can help with problems such as :
- Pronation or 'flat feet'
- Plantarfasciitis
- Arch pain
- Heel Spurs
- Ankle pain
- Metatarsalgia
- Neuroma's
- Diabetes related foot problems
